Mugicha
Rooibos Organic Red
This Japanese standard is delicious hot & cold! Mugicha (pronounced Moo'-gee-cha) is entirely made from roasted barley. Caffeine-free with a
subtle sweetness, making it perfect for the kids…but you might not want to share, it’s that good.
Mugicha is the Japanese name for a type of tea which, unlike most other teas, is not made from tea leaves but from roasted barley. This
barley tea is gently roasted to perfection in small batches and has unparallel taste and flavor.
Though it is not technically tea, it is prepared in much the same way. It is popular in Japan and Korea (where it is called bori cha). It is
regarded as a summer beverage, and is caffeine free.
Originally, roasted barley seeds were stewed in hot water to prepare the tea (this is still the method generally used in Korea) but barley tea
bags became more popular during the early 1980s and this is now the norm in Japan. You can also brew it in hot or cold water. The tea is
usually served cold, but it can also be served hot; the hot version is more popular in the winter. It can also be found from many different
distributors in vending machines all over Japan.
According to Japanese food conglomerate Kagome, a recent study stated that drinking barley tea increased blood fluidity. This action is
caused by the chemical alkylpyrazine, which is a primary flavor in the tea.
Naturally caffeine-free, its mellow, soothing flavor can be enjoyed by everyone at any time of day. Served chilled in summer, it is delightfully
cooling and refreshing. In winter, hot Mugicha is both warming and relaxing.
You can even make a nutritious breakfast Barley Milk Tea with this roast barley. 10 gram if Mugicha will make a pitcher of delicious hot tea or
iced tea - it is naturally caffeine free.

Yerba Mate
$4.00 2 oz

Intense grassy & highly stimulating! Yerba Mate (Ilex Paraguayans), or Mate is a South American Herb that is causing a stir among tea lovers and
the medical community. This natural stimulant contains matteine, which is similar to caffeine, improves concentration, and is a natural source of
nutrition. Yerba Mate safely increases energy levels without any negative side effects.

Mate (Ilex paraguayensis) is an evergreen member of the holly family. It grows wild in Argentina, Chile, Peru and Brazil but is most abundant in
Paraguay. According to western medicine, Mate contains numerous vitamins and minerals including: carotene, vitamins A, C, E, B-1, B-2,
B-complex, riboflavin, nicotinic acid, pantothenic acid, biotin, magnesium, calcium, iron, sodium, potassium, manganese and many more. Yerba
Mate helps to boost immunity, cleanse and detoxify the blood, tone the nervous system, restore youthful hair color, retard aging, combat fatigue,
stimulate the mind, control the appetite, reduce the effects of debilitating disease, reduce stress, and balances sleep cycles.

The metabolic effects of Mate appear to include the ability to maintain aerobic glycolysis (breakdown of carbohydrates) during exercise for
longer periods of time. This results in burning more calories, increasing cardiac efficiency, and delaying anaerobic glycoysis and the resulting
buildup of lactic acid during exercise. Mate also reportedly reduces blood pressure.

The tea is brewed from the dried leaves and stemlets of the Yerba tree . Mate has a mature flavor similar to tea (Camellia sinensis). Yerba Mate
can be enjoyed hot or iced. The name Yerba signifies this as an herb of excellence. “Mate” refers to the vessel in which the herb was once
brewed and is derived from the quicha word “mati” or traditional gourd. In the ancient manner, the brewed tea was sipped through a straw of
silver that was fitted with a strainer on the end. The brewing vessel was passed round the table in a friendly manner with everyone drinking from
the same straw. It was insulting to the group if you refused! Like many teas, this brew is traditionally flavored with lemon or sugar, except the
sugar is caramelized or burnt before being added.
